Biography
Andrew Ewan Stewart was born in Edinburgh in 1957, the son of internationally-known Scottish entertainer Andy Stewart and his wife Sheila. Ewan has four sisters.
At age nine, Ewan was enrolled as a boarder at Edinburgh's Merchiston Castle School, where he remained from 1966-1974. He hated the school intensely, and couldn't wait to leave. In 1975, he left school and moved to London, where he studied drama and began working in theater. His first employer was his father, who made the sixteen-year-old his stage manager—a job at which Ewan, according to his own reminiscences, was "hopeless".
Ewan lives in London with his wife, English actress Clare Byam-Shaw, and their two children, Thomas and Eleanor.
